An intimately Malian story

The history of Etude Seye is deeply intertwined with that of Mali. Established during the independence movement, Etude Seye has been involved in many of Mali's historical events and has contributed to the strengthening of legislation by advising the government.

1960 - Independence

The Late Assane Seye(1915-2001) played a major role in the independence of Mali, Senegal, Ivory Coast, and Benin.

He will be decorated many times.

1969 - Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Mali

The late Assane Seye, after a long career as a magistrate, became, following Ibrahim Sylla, the second Chief Justice in the history of the Supreme Court of Mali.

1973 - The beginnings

Utilizing the bridge between the two sister professions, the late Assane Seye founded his firm, Etude Seye, which remains among the oldest law firms in West Africa to this day.

Beyond his legal career, he also dedicated his skills to serving others as President of the Malian Red Cross, the Rotary Club, and SOS Sahel.

1980 - 2nd generation

The Late Magatte Seye(1953-2021) became the managing partner of Etude Seye and renamed it Cabinet Seye.

Holder of a PhD in criminal law, he was highly respected and extremely sought after.

90s - The major trials

The late Magatte Seye was a key figure in major African trials. Notably, he defended Moussa Traoré in what was referred to as the "Malian Nuremberg" and represented the Guinean state in the "Condé Affair."

He also advised numerous companies and financial institutions.

2000s - Economic development

Cabinet Seye, under the direction of the late Magatte Seye, developed its business activities and represented major entities such as the Central Bank of West African States and the most important companies in the country for several decades. In 2009, it actively participated in drafting the regulations governing the Mali Center for Conciliation and Arbitration (CECAM).

Finally, the firm advised the Malian government on multiple occasions.

2021 - 3rd generation

Balla Seye is the third and current administrator of Cabinet Seye. Holder of a PhD in Banking Law, specialist in contract clauses and financial litigation, he practices in both advisory and litigation fields. In 2021, in honour to the late Assane Seye, he renamed the firm to Etude Seye.

Nowadays

Although initially distinguished in litigation, the firm has since evolved into corporate law, a field in which it now holds an undisputed position. This dual expertise allows the firm to handle a wide range of transactions and disputes for clients of all statutes and nationalities.
